How to get there

Route from Airport via Town:
From Cape Town International Airport, take the N2 towards Cape Town.  At De Waal Drive, bear left.  Go towards Kirstenbosch and Muizenberg.  This becomes the Blue Route (M3).  At the end of the Blue Route, turn left at the T-junction and 500m further on, turn right.  Keep going straight through Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, Glen Cairn and Simon’s Town.

Take the coast road from Simon's Town, travelling south towards Cape Point. After approximately 2.2 km, you will see the Boulders Beach turnoff to the left and the Simon's Town Country Club on the right. Continue for 800m past Oatlands and the Cape Times Fresh Air Camp on the right. Turn 45° right into Valley Road which climbs steeply for 50m. Turn first right into Arum Road and 30m further on, you will find number 10 (Felsensicht) on the left.

About the area

Simonstown is a Naval port and home to the South African Navy. Each year they open their gates and allow thousands to explore the fleet of submarines and warships. Simonstown itself is small but filled with interesting antique and curio shops along the old fashioned high street.

Simon's Town boasts a number of well-known and interesting museums including the Naval Museum, the Toy Museum and the Simon's Town Museum of Cultural Heritage.  One can also visit the Scratch Patch, a gemstone collection where one can "scratch" for a large variety of beautiful gems.

There are many restaurants in the Simon's Town/Fishhoek/St James area serving a wide range of excellent cuisine including continenal, Italian, Japanese and South African dishes.

Sporting activites include swimming, body-boarding, surfing, windsurfing, sea kayaking, scuba diving, big game and shore fishing, yachting at the Simon's Town yacht club, golf, squash and bowls at the Simon's Town Country Club, birding, boat trips out to sea and cycling.

One of the highlights of a trip to this area is the spotting of a pod of Southern Right Whales during the months September to November. Even into the New Year, it is still possible to see these beautiful creatures creating enormous sprays and lifting their magnificent tails into the air.

Of course, a visit to the Boulders National Heritage Site is also a must - adults and children alike are always delighted to view and photograph the many penguins which reside here.
