Why renting a holiday home is nothing like buying a house
We’ve all done it. Been to the estate agents, given them our details and taken home a whole bunch of leaflets and sales particulars of potential properties. A couple of A4 sheets with room sizes, features and a short line of prose telling us that this is a very exclusive sought after property in one the best streets in Town. We then sit at the kitchen table and narrow them down to the ones we want to view. Then with sales particulars in hand we visit the properties only to find that pinocchio had a hand in writing them … hmmm.
Now the difference between buying a house and choosing a holiday rental is that you get a chance to see the goods before you buy when looking for a house. But when choosing your holiday accommodation you have to make that all important decision based on the sketchy 2 sheets of exaggerated A4. And this is where a bit of smart thinking comes into play. As a holiday rental accommodation owner you need to be ahead of the game, give potential holidaymakers more information than the competition. Describe everything, have as many pictures as the site will take (onelocation has unlimited property photos for this very reason), videos, customer reviews and star ratings, accreditations from recognized Tourist organizations. Detailed information about the area, distances, how to get there, weather. Even have safety tips, car hire or cheap flight deals and information on to get to and from the airport. The more information you give, the more you set their expectations and the less chance you will give them to be disappointed on arrival. Do this and the 100% customer review and rating should be yours for the taking and as we’ve discussed in earlier posts this is where the real long term value lies.
